College History

Bangladesh with population of 150 millions has only one government Dental College at Dhaka and two other Dental Units (no full fledged) are attached to Chittagong and Rajshahi Medical College. These dental institutions together can admit only a few students per year and other private dental colleges can admit all together about 500 students This number is not sufficient for a vast populated country. Though there are some women’s medical colleges but there is no women’s dental college in the country. Bangladesh Government wishes to use population as power for that reason near about 500% wcmen, should be engaged in the stream of power. But the reality is women’s higher education facility is limited. Bangladesh is the 2nd largest Muslim populated country. In many families women are not allowed to be co-educated. They dropped out before higher education or technical education. Although our benevolent Government having best intention to improve and expand the facilities of dental and medical education in the Country but at present unable to do so due to various resources constrains. Therefore, the Government is encouraging and inviting dental and medical institutions from the private sectors. The development in the private sector will create healthy competition in raising standard of education and research in the respective fields. This will also expedite the goal of WHO- Health for all by the year 2000. It may also be mentioned that on 7th April, 1994 who declared to mark the year for `` Oral health for a healthy life’’ Dentist – Population ration is 1:1,50,000. There is a great need of more dental institutions to produce qualified dental and oral surgeons. 70-80% of our rural population is suffering from various dental and oral diseases such as dental caries, periodontitis, fracture, oral cyst, tumours, ulcers, salivary glands diseases and many other oro-facial problems. To treat these diseases we need more qualified and efficient dental and oral surgeons. It is mentioned rightfully that the mouth is the gateway for many diseases. Every one knows that all over the world and even in our neighboring countries, private dental colleges are very successful and contributing to a great extent in the process of national development.
